25 Years of Ocean Inspiration: Seymour Center Logo Contest

The Seymour Marine Discovery Center held a 25th Anniversary Logo Design Competition to celebrate its legacy in marine science education and coastal stewardship. Open to artists and ocean enthusiasts of all ages, the competition invited submissions that honored the Center’s mission and growing focus on climate resilience.

Participants were encouraged to creatively reflect the Seymour Center’s history and its role in ocean conservation, with optional text such as “Seymour Marine Discovery Center” or “25th Anniversary.” Winning designs were featured on commemorative merchandise and digital platforms. Prizes included memberships, guest passes, and logo-branded gifts. The competition ran from October 31 to December 2, 2024, with winners announced at the end of February 2025.

My logo design received the “People’s Choice Award” in the Adult Category. The design features a stylized number “25” composed of animals emblematic of the diverse ocean and coastal ecosystems of the Monterey Bay, including octopuses, dolphins, pelicans, jellyfish, sea turtles, seagulls, sharks, rays, otters, and sea lions. To emphasize achievement and honor, the region’s iconic giant kelp is arranged in a traditional award-style format, gracefully flanking the number like ornamental foliage.
